During China International Import Expo(CIIE) on November 6, Heather Humphreys, Ireland’s Minister for the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation met with Hengtian CEO, Mr. Bo Zhou and Vice President Mr. Wells Shi in Shanghai.  This meeting served as a further in-depth exchange between Hengtian and Irish national leaders since the meeting between the Tánaiste, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland and Hengtian executives this past March.

In Recent years, trade between Ireland and China has expanded and developed very positive momentum. Minister Humphreys introduced to Mr. Bo Zhou many of the recent developments in Ireland and the business opportunities brought about in International trade between the two countries. She also spoke highly of China’s opening up and commented that she would fully support Hengtian in its efforts to set up a branch in Ireland as a base to further expand its business in Europe. Mr. Bo Zhou, Hengtian CEO, expressed his thanks for Minister Humphreys’invitation and said that Hengtian had been paying close attention to the development and opportunities of Ireland and other European markets. Since 2010, Hengtian has actively cooperated with Irish companies in the fields of life insurance and pensions, among other segments of finance and technology. Mr. Bo Zhou pointed out that with its open and inclusive culture, as well as an ideal business environment, Ireland has assumed greater strategic importance as a base of Hengtian business in Europe, and that Hengtian is well on its way to establishing a new Irish entity in collaboration with University College Cork.

We expect that the visit of senor Irish government officials during the CIIE is bound to create opportunities for Chinese companies to expand in the Irish market. Science and technology, especially financial technology will surely draw continuous attention as an important part of bilateral trade cooperation.
